No learner left out. Telpen Edu is free for special schools.
Registered special schools, special units and integrated programmes, and special-needs TVETs can use Telpen Edu on the free Inclusion plan. We check each request and confirm with you before your free month ends.
What you get today
- Every module a mainstream school gets — learner records, attendance, timetables, fees, parent messages, learning materials, library and transport.
- Learner records with a place for disability and health notes, visible only to the head, admin and the learner's class teacher.
- Phone sign-in for staff and parents, in the Android app or any browser.
Being built with four pilot schools
We are looking for one school for learners with visual impairment, one for learners who are deaf, one following the Stage-Based Pathway, and one mainstream school with a special unit. Pilot schools shape each feature before it reaches everyone.
Works with the phone's own accessibility tools
Screens that read correctly with TalkBack, work with Switch Access and Voice Access, and grow with the phone's text size.
Assessment accommodations
Extra time or no time limit, read-aloud questions, larger text and answers by voice or by a scribe — set per learner, as KNEC does for adapted papers.
Support profile and learning plan
The categories in the Sector Policy for Learners and Trainees with Disabilities, the EARC assessment, a one-page “how to support me” note for teachers, and an individual learning plan with goals and reviews — only with the parent's consent.
Stage-Based Pathway
Foundation, Intermediate, Pre-Vocational and Vocational levels with the KICD learning areas, rated on the same four levels as CBC. Switch it on in Settings and run it alongside ordinary grades, as a special unit does.
Parents without smartphones
We are working out, with pilot schools, the best way to reach parents who use a basic phone or can't read a screen.
Disability information stays protected
Under the Data Protection Act 2019, disability and health details are sensitive personal data. Telpen Edu records them only with a parent's or guardian's consent, shows class teachers only what they need to support the learner, and keeps the full record to the head and the people the school names. Each school's records are kept separate.
